How to choose a reputation management company

By Jeremy Andrews, Senior Reputation Expert, TheBestReputation · · 3 min read

To choose a reputation management company, ask for a written audit of your results, a named scope, a realistic timeline per result, sample reporting, and their exit condition. Avoid any firm that guarantees removal of lawful content, refuses to explain methods, or wants a long contract before auditing.

How to choose a reputation management company

Nine questions to ask

  1. 1.What exactly ranks for my name today?
  2. 2.Which of those can be removed, and how?
  3. 3.Which need suppression?
  4. 4.What's the timeline for each?
  5. 5.What will you publish, and where?
  6. 6.How do you report progress?
  7. 7.Who is my direct contact?
  8. 8.What does done look like?
  9. 9.What happens if nothing moves in 90 days?

Ask whether they've ever posted negative content they later charged to remove. The pause before the answer tells you plenty.

Common questions

Are reputation management companies legitimate?
Many are. The industry also has bad actors, which is why a written audit and defined scope matter so much.
Should I sign a long contract?
Only after an audit, and only with a stated exit condition and 90-day progress checkpoint.
